"I had the pleasure of hearing Cain-Oscar Bergeron give a stunning performance of my Sonata No. 1 for Flute and Piano in Lincoln Center on Jan. 25, 2014. Combining his truly gorgeous sound with an amazing, virtuosic technique, he brought my music to life with a wonderful sense of excitement, and great expressivity. His impassioned lyricism, and thrilling and dramatic interpretation of my music resulted in a performance which was heartfelt, riveting and genuinely beautiful."
-- Eric Ewazen, composer and Juilliard professor, New York City
"Cain-Oscar Bergeron possesses a gorgeous, warm sound - and, oh, those glorious soaring long lines! He is a flutist who inspires."
-- James Adler, pianist/composer, New York City

With Chez Nous Autres (Cajun French for "Our Home"), Cain-Oscar Bergeron and his ensemble, Caïn et les Cadiens, take viewers on a musical journey across Cajun America while exploring the universality of change and the rebirth of the human spirit. This musical and visual collaboration tells the story of the French settlers who became known as Acadians, or Cajuns.
Instrumental combinations including flute, piano, viola, accordion, guitar, and fiddle play in classical and Cajun folk styles to recount the journey of a people from the motherland of western France to Canada, and ultimately, southern Louisiana, known as Acadiana.
Chez Nous Autres explores this cultural legacy and embodies the exclamation "Laissez le bon temps rouler!" Let the good times roll!

John Rutter's Suite Antique
St. Catherine of Siena, Riverside, CT
The Suite Antique was written in 1979 in response to an invitation to write a piece for the Cookham Festival, and since Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.5 was in the programme, Rutter decided to write for the same combination of instruments, using the forms and styles of Bach’s day.
The Suite is written for flute, harpsichord and strings with six movements ranging from a Bach-like aria to a jazz-influenced waltz. Rutter’s own style comes forth most strongly in the final Rondeau with its characteristically forward-driving rhythms and melodic lines.
The version you will hear for this performance has been reduced for performance with keyboard alone, but still captures the essence of each "antique" movement in the suite!
